ESAAMLG 2026 Annual Meetings convene in Kigali, Rwanda under "outcomes not paperwork" theme (Sept 2, 2026)
The Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group held its annual meetings in Kigali with all 22 member states plus FATF, World Bank and IMF representation, under the theme "From Technical Compliance to Demonstrable Outcome." Rwanda's central bank deputy governor Nick Barigye urged members to judge their AML/CFT systems by three outcome tests: are illicit funds being disrupted, are criminal assets being recovered, and are criminal networks being dismantled. ESAAMLG also signed an MOU with Open Ownership to advance beneficial ownership transparency across the region.
